Wait a minute! We’re in the “Ember month” already o! Mehn, the year don finish o. Okay, i guess “happy new month” is in order na?.
Well, well, as we know, it’s a brand new week, and of course, a beautiful Monday, we know how we do it every Monday.
So, this week, we’ll be talking about a wonderful personality, a multi talented man, a comedian, movie director, a producer and an actor. He’s predominantly known for his comedic roles. Meet Charles Inojie, the man who single-handedly started the “Na dem dey rush us” trend in Nigeria.
Charles Inojie was born into a royal family on the 14th of March, 1970, in Urowa village, Emu, Edo State, Nigeria. He once nurtured the dream of becoming a lawyer, but later had a change of mind in 1992, after attending Bode Osoyin writer’s resort, were he acquired a certificate in dramatic arts in the year 1993. After which he attended the university of Port Harcourt and graduated in 1999.
After taking the decision to go into acting, Charles Inojie joined different dramatic and theatre clubs, where he started performing stage drama. He officially joined the nollywood industry in 1999, where he kicked off his career as an assistant movie director, before he went in fully as an actor and a movie director.
After relocating to Lagos State, he became the assistant director at Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen’s production company. In 2016, he was appointed as the president of the Screen Writers Guild of Nigeria (SWGN) by the members of the labour union.
Charles Inojie has featured in more than two hundred and fifty(250) nollywood movies and TV series and can be referred to as one of the best Nigerian comedy icons. Such movies/tv series include “Keke Soldiers, Caught in the Act, Gamblers, De prof, Love Wahala, Police Recruit” and so on.
He’s also popularly known for his outstanding role in the famous television comedy series “The Johnsons”, which also features Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki). He has also won the Africa Goodwill Icon Awards, 2017 and a host of other awards.
On the 17th of November, 2012, Charles got married to his wife, Obehi Obihseh, in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, and they have two (2) children together.
